Winter can be a challenge in the mountains – storms, snow, cold, dangerous driving, darkness, frozen pipes… Sometimes, I find myself contemplating the gift of hibernation. Eat enormous amounts of food all fall, find a cozy cubby, go to sleep. Wake up in the spring having shed all the winter pounds while maintaining muscle mass. I have to remind myself, winter in the mountains is also a gift from God.
I am blessed to live in a snug log cabin with my love of 33 years – hot tea, a crackling fire, cuddling on the couch, divided between watching a good movie and fat snowflakes gently drifting to the ground. Winter also brings astounding landscapes with Godly reminders of His design and creation.
His evergreens and tracks in the snow are reminders that life continues, even through the dead of winter. His dormant deciduous trees are reminders of the hope of spring. I am blessed to be surrounded by His creation declaring His never-ending glory.
